Grete Lehner Bibring (January 11, 1899 – August 10, 1977) was an Austrian-American psychoanalyst who became the first female full professor at Harvard Medical School. ==Background== Born in Vienna, Austria, she received her M.D. from the University of Vienna in 1924. She was a "second generation" member of Freudian Scholars, and played a leading role in the integration of psychiatry with general patient care. She, her husband Edward, and their two sons fled Nazi-occupied Vienna in 1938. They traveled to London with Anna and Sigmund Freud. The family emigrated to Boston in 1941. She became a United States citizen in 1946, the same year she joined the faculty of Harvard Medical School. In 1961, Bibring was appointed Harvard Medical School's first female full professor.
